Getting Results: Developing Safe and Healthy Kids is a collection of publications and services designed to help California school districts use research-based strategies in designing and implementing their alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention programs, as well as their youth violence prevention programs. Getting Results accomplishes this by engaging both leading researchers and practitioners in critically examining current research findings and their implications for schools.

Getting Results Part I
California Action Guide to Creating Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities,
provides an overview of research-based strategies for preventing or reducing alcohol and other drug use, as well as violence.

Getting Results Part II
California Action Guide to Tobacco Use Prevention Education,
presents research to support tobacco use prevention among young people.

Getting Results Update 1
Positive Youth Development: Research, Commentary and Action,
highlights the importance of a youth development approach in developing safe and healthy students.

Getting Results Update 2
Assessing the Effectiveness of Classroom-Based Prevention Programs,
reports on a thorough examination of the research evidence of effectiveness of the most widely-used classroom curricula in California, and provides a discussion of the social influences model.

Getting Results Update 3
Alcohol, Tobacco, Other Drug, and Violence Prevention: Research Update,
contains summaries of recent ATOD and violence prevention research and essays, all written by researchers Patrick Aaby, Bill Hansen, and Cheryl Perry.

Getting Results Update 4
Violence Prevention and Safe Schools,
presents recently published key research about the dimensions of youth violence and what has been done to create safe schools.

Getting Results Update 5
Student Health, Supportive Schools, and Academic Success,
consists of comprehensive discussions of the research on health variables, risk behaviors, supportive school environments, and academic success.

In addition to research publications, Getting Results also provides quick fact sheets summarizing research, trainings through county offices of education, and facilitates task force meetings on important prevention topics to inform prevention efforts throughout the state.

Getting Results, developed by Health & Education Communication Consultants (HECC), is one part of a comprehensive prevention effort from the Safe and Healthy Kids Program Office at the California Department of Education (CDE).
